Sailing in the Dodecanese
There are large charter fleets based in Rhodes, Kos, and Samos. The first two are very well served by flights in season, and flights to Samos are frequent as well.

-
Good selection of charter yachts
-
Several attractive itineraries for a one week cruise
-
Excellent scenery wherever you go
-
Suitable for sailors having some experience because it is often quite windy (Force 5 or even 6)
-
Quick trips to Turkey are currently impossible

Manganitis
Description
Utterly charming, but with only room for 2 yachts alongside. Fearsome rocks to port of the entry channel, and catabatic winds can make the entry very risky. If it is full, you have a long trip to safety. The little bars there are marvelous.
Fourni town
Description
Poor holding for your anchor makes this an unreliable place to berth. There are plenty of good anchorages and the occasional pier along the west coast of the main island that make better places to stay.
Fourni is wonderfully wild with few tourists; those that do come are made to feel most welcome. Join them, do.
Phythagorio Town Quay
Description
Although noisy and very busy along the waterfront, this is a lovely spot. Shopping is good with both butcher, fishmonger, bakery, fruit & veg, & grocery all a stone's throw from the quay. Look at our Services section for specific recommendations. Our photo;
Limin Vathy - Samos
Description
Few yachts opt for Vathi. A busy ferry port, it is also exposed to the prevailing Meltemi. Pythagorio to the south is a much better choice.
Karlovassi
Description
Ramshackle exposed port on the north side of Samos. Good boatyard for repairs and winter storage. Centre of Samos wine industry. Buy from the co-operative in town.
Fry Harbour Kasos
Description
Large well protected harbour where we were made to feel very welcome. Beware fish prices however. We were badly stung. Our fault; we know better really.
Pigadia Port
Description
Built with EU money for yachts, the harbour has been taken over by largish fishing boats, and what little space remains is semi-derelict. A necessary stopping off point on the way to Crete, and to visit Olymbos. Otherwise uninteresting. You can try the main basin, but we felt it too exposed.
Megisti - Kastellorizou
Description
Almost within touching distance of Kas in Turkey, this is the last of the Greek Dodecanese islands. It is like an operatic theatre set with 19th century houses tumbling down the hill side. A remarkable spot. Go if you can! The Port Police can be a little officious.
Khalki Pontoon
Description
The floating pontoon inspires little confidence, but somehow seems to hold. Beware of crossed anchors; We suffered very badly and were lucky there was no damage. Violent gusts are also a hasard - we saw the top of our keel. It is a pretty spot however, with a wide range of attractive restaurants and good food shopping. Our photo
Kos Marina
Description
This is a very competent marina with very competitive prices given the facilities on offer. Avoid the town quuay in Mandraki if you. Here is much preferable. You will find bar & restaurant reviews in the Services sector ot the site, and details of the other businesses located here
Lakki Marina
Description
Lakki is not a favourite of ours generally and neither is this marina. It is expensive and our recpetion was chilly. However anchoring in the bay, while safe, is also an unpleasant experience with motor bikes and cars racing noisily round the bay almsot all night.
LEROS MARINA EVROS S.A.
Description
Although we have listed it here as a marina, the reality is that it is mainly an over-winter storage base and as such enjoys a good reputation at competitive prices. A short stay berth in high season may be less easy.
