Sailing in the South of Croatia
We have defined Southern Croatia as being anywhere south of Sibenik right down to Dubrovnik. This, like further north, is an area of exceptional sailing richness. Most of the charter yachts are based in the Trogir/Split area with remarkably few in Dubrovnik. Most sailors leaving the Split/Trogir area will head for the islands towards the south, although heading north to the Kornatis is also a fine option.
The southern islands (along with the Korniatis) are usually and rightly seen as the jewel in the Croatian crown. They offer marinas aplenty, but also numerous safe anchorages. Some of the towns like Havr and Brac are gems. The mainland south of Split is of comparatively modest interest until you reach Dubrovnik - one of the most beautiful cities we have ever visited, but also the victim of its own immense mass tourist success. Cruise liner hordes are everywhere and hard to avoid.
A one-way from the Split area to Dubrovnik is as good as it gets for a sailing holiday, but really needs at least 10 and preferably 14 days.
