Sailing in ATHENS & the Saronic Gulf

Much of the Greek charter fleet is based in the area mostly at the unattractive Alimos marina (Kalamaki). The beach restaurant not far north of the northern entrance is recommended - none of those on-site.

Flights to and from Athens are numerous and good value. Getting to the departure marina is easy and quick by taxi or public transport.

  • Enormous selection of charter yachts

  • Two attractive itineraries for a one week cruise

  • You must cross shipping channel at start and finish (tiresome and time-consuming)

  • Crowded with other charterers less competent than you!

There are 6 night/7 day itineraries that with thought can be combined into 14 day cruises. If you have that long, consider the Southern Itinerary and continue south down the quieter East Coast of the Peloponnese.

Aimed at large motor yachts, this is an unlikely destination for private sailing yacht owners.

Not the prettiest town in the area by any means, but it is a place where we regularly just chill out. The north harbour is much preferable to the south where depths are too great for anchoring comfort and it is a regular haunt for large mega-flotilla type fleets that party much of the night. North side restaurants are good too and most of the provisions shopping is here too. If the wind swings round to the east, it is however qujickly untenable but anchoring off is easy and safe.

There is little room here but it is much more attractive than Aegina Town. Protection is only moderate and there are submerged rocks near parts of the quay making access somewhat uncertain. Attractive surroundings.

Charming small harbour with very limited capacity. Good waterside restaurants. See our Services section. If full, you will need to trek over to Epidavros.

A tiny harbour along the north coast of the Methana peninsula. Little used by cruisers and there is little space to manoeuvre. Protection from the Meltemi is only moderate.

No details are to be found on the web. This small natural port boasts sulphur rich and therefore malodorous water excellent for killing unwanted hull crustaceans. It is usually full of yachts on long-term contract.
